What a great week the children have had with Optimist Yachting, Museum and Estuary visits. This is all part of our local histories and Education outside the classroom work. We were pretty lucky with the weather given how stormy the week could have been.

Whilst we have had a great week for the children, it wasn't such a great week for vandalism - see below for more.

It was a bad weekend and beginning of the week for theft and vandalism across our school. We haven't had any for such a long time so this came as a huge shock. The destruction of the court surface will take time to repair and the theft of the eight speakers will not only take time to fix and repair but will come at significant cost, which impacts directly on the things we do for the children.

There are some low-life adults out there who have eight of our speakers which being the voltage they are won't even work for them. In the meantime our safety systems are compromised and staff are having to waste their time getting quotes, filling in paperwork etc when they could be doing other things for the children.

Any information would be appreciated so we can pass it on.

Welcome to Kaya Rosser who has just started with us in Rata. We hope you enjoy your days at Port Ahuriri School.

A huge congratulations to this superstar, Jackson Hapi-Smith.

He was awarded Junior Hunter of the Year 2022 and Junior Heaviest Boar 2022 by the Hawkes Bay Pig Hunting Club.

Well done Jackson, we all think you are awesome!

Thanks to all the Parent helpers who assisted with Optimist Yachting this week. The children had a great time and learnt some amazing skills.

It was a big day for Piki Hub in the heat on Wednesday at the Estuary. They had a great time seeing and learning new things. Thanks so much to those Parents/Grandparents who gave up their time to help, we really appreciate it.

The school app has been updated with the new sports that have started. Notices regarding each sport will be sent out to these groups only going forward so make sure you have selected the groups you want to get notices for.

To do this, click on the 3 small lines at the top left of the app home screen then click on Alert Subscriptions and you can select the groups you want to get alerts for.

Your children will have brought home a piece of paper with individual codes for school photos. Please go online and order them, they are online order only.

If you have lost your code or didn't receive one, email Sonya (admin@portahuriri.school.nz) as she has them.

A reminder to please not wear the school sports tops to school, they are only to be put on before your game. If you have one you have purchased with your name on it that is totally fine as it is not the schools.

Thanks for your understanding.

Please do not move the cones out the front of the school in the pickup zone. Staff will move these once the children are released from class.

And a reminder that this area is only a 2 minute pickup and dropoff zone. Thank you for your cooperation.

There has been interest from some parents to start up Parents and Friends again.

The group will need members as well as a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. If you are interested, a meeting will be held from 5.00pm on 22 November in the Staffroom.

How are those sunflowers growing? Don't forget to measure and send your photos in. You have until the end of February 2023.
